BIKE PARTY! DAYTIME RAINBOW RIDE to Jinhae -- recap

Before we do the recap, here are some statistics collected from the surveys

- 44 total riders

- 28 Bike Party first timers

- 25% of riders were Korean riders

- 36% had never been to Jinhae

- 20% had never ridden 12 km (7.5 mi) before

We had people from 8 countries spanning 4 continents. Also, everyone looked FANTASTIC!

4대륙 8개국에서 모인 우리들은 모두 멋졌습니다!

This Bike Party made a specific effort to reach out and recruit Changwon locals through a poster campaigns at university campuses and popular public places. We also made all our information accessible in Korean.

이번 바이크 파티에서는 창원 지역 사람들과 함께 하기 위해 대학교 캠퍼스와 공공장소에 포스터를 붙이는 노력을 하였습니다. 그리고 모든 정보는 한국어로 볼 수 있게 하였습니다.

We began at the start point at the Changwon Rotary and were greeted and interviewed by officials from City Hall.
우리는 창원 시청광장에서 만나서 서로 인사를 하고 시청 공무원 분들의 인터뷰에 응하였습니다.

Our ride continued as we made passage through Anmin Tunnel to Jinhae.

Finally we made it to our finally destination along the sea at Jinhae-ru!!
마침내 우리는 바닷가에 위치한 우리의 목표지점인 진해루에 도착하였습니다!!



And... we also made it into the local newspaper!

자전거 파티

창원 이마트 옆 시청광장에서 시작합니다. 3월 23일 토요일 오후 1시 30분에 만나서 오후 2시에 자전거를 탈 것입니다. 

주제: 무지개 자전거 타기

무지개: 최대한 다양한 색의 옷을 입으세요. 예를 들어, 오렌지색 모자, 분홍색 장갑, 녹색 양말 한 짝과 노란 양말 한 짝 그리고 자주색 내복에 빨간색 티셔츠 등을 입으시면 됩니다.

이동 경로: 두 가지 선택사항이 있습니다. ‘마일드’와 ‘스파이시’입니다

마일드: 진해루까지 편도로 12.3km를 달리는 코스입니다.

지도 위에 ‘#5’라고 표시된 깃발이 공단로와 성주로 사이에 있는 우리의 첫 휴식처인 성주공원입니다. 이곳까지 가는데 바이크 파티의 속도로 30~40분 정도 걸립니다. 여기에는 GS25와 누비자 정거장이 있습니다. 성주공원에서 약 20~30분 동안 휴식을 취할 것입니다. 그 다음 안민터널 안의 자전거 통로를 따라서(’17‘이라고 표시된 동그라미 모양) 진해로 들어가 진해루까지 갈 것입니다. 진해루 바로 맞은편에 CU편의점이 있습니다.

첫 번째 휴식 장소: 공단로와 성주로 사이에 있는 성주공원

이동 시간: 약 30~40분

첫 번째 휴식처로부터 이동 시간: 약 25~30분

이곳이 종착지입니다. ‘스파이시’ 코스를 선택하지 않으신다면 누비자 자전거를 이곳에 반납하고 택시를 잡으시면 됩니다.

(진해루에 관해 최근에 알게 된 사실: 택시 잡는 것이 힘듭니다. 아예 없는 것은 아니나 미리 알려드리는 것입니다.)

스파이시: 시청 광장까지 다시 돌아오면서 한 번 더 휴식 시간을 가지는 코스로서 23.5km 거리입니다.

계속 자전거를 타고 싶으신 분들을 위해서 우리는 다시 터널을 지나서 비슷한 경로로 창원으로 돌아올 것이며 중간에 창원대로와 정동로 사이에 있는 장미공원에서 세 번째 휴식 시간을 가질 것입니다(지도에 #2로 표시된 깃발). 거기서 우리는 20~30분 정도 휴식 시간을 갖고 나서 10분 정도 자전거를 타고 시청 광장으로 돌아올 것입니다. 재밌는 복장을 하고 23.5km를 달렸다는 사실에 뿌듯하실 겁니다.

BIKE PARTY! DAYTIME RAINBOW RIDE to Jinhae

BIKE PARTY! DAYTIME RAINBOW RIDE to Jinhae -- route

We will begin at the rotary near E-MART in Changwon. We will meet Saturday, 3/23 at 1:30PM. The ride leaves at 2PM.

THEME: RAINBOW RIDE

RAINBOW: Wear as much color variety as you own. Example:Orange hat, pink gloves, 1 green sock, 1 yellow sock, purple undershirt with a red over t-shirt

For our route: you have some options. MILD and SPICY

MILD:  a one-way trip that ends at Jinhae-Ru. 12.3 km (about 7.5 miles)

Flag Marker #5 on the Map indicates our 1st stop at "The Columns" @ Geongdan-ro and Seoungju-ro. At Bike Party pace it takes roughly 30-40 minutes to get to there. There is a GS25 across the street and Nubija stalls. We will hang out at the columns for about 20-30ish minutes. We then proceed through the bike corridor through Anmin Tunnel (that little bubble that says "17") and down into Jinhae to Jinhae-ru. There is a CU right next to Jinhae-ru.

Time it takes to get there: approx. 30-40 min

Time it takes from Group Stop 1: approx 25- 30 min

This might be the end of your ride. Dock your Nubija, and (try to) get a cab......
unless you're feeling SPICY.

(A note recently discovered about Jinhae-ru: finding a cab can be difficult. Not impossible, but just letting you know ahead of time)



SPICY: a round-trip ride that ends back at the rotary with an extra stop on the way back. 23.5 km (14.5 miles)


For those who want to continue spicing up their ride, we ride back through the tunnel following a mostly similar route backtracking except for making a 3rd Group Stop at the Changwon City Rose Garden @ Changwon-daero & Jeoungdong-ru (at Flag Post #2 on the map). From there we hang out 20 or 30 minutes until making the quick 10 minute ride back to the rotary feeling great after biking close to 15 miles on a beautiful Saturday in silly clothes.

We can't let busy schedules get in the way of BIKE PARTY can we?? Heck no! Spring has finally sprung and that means its time to take to the streets and ride!

 BIKE PARTY travelled from Sangnam-dong, Changwon, through Hapseongdong in Masan and finished at the edge of the bay. There's a reason they call Masan "Dream Bay," and lets just say that  BIKE PARTY made some dreams come true!
